She records what she knows about the Reestablishment, a group that promised to help the nation recover what it lost to climate change. Only there does she admit her desires and fears. Her only comfort until now has been the small notebook that she writes in daily. She has been alone, emotionally and physically, for so long that she does not trust anyone. Although she longs for companionship, she is hesitant to open up to him. In solitary confinement for almost a year, Juliette is surprised, and a little frightened, when she is given a roommate.
